Blog entry – April 2026

This month I saw movie ‘Wuthering Heights’ starring Margot Robbie as Catherine and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. This being a classic novel I had my feelers out for a blast. I enjoyed the mechanical versus emotional/ sensual rollercoaster that relationships developed as ie. Isabella/Heathcliff versus Catherine/Heathcliff. The acting was seamless and the characters spontaneous. I enjoyed the contrast with the 1939 classic movie of same name which starred Merle Oberon as Cathy and Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff. Always enjoyed exploring this work.

This month I also got to watch Barcelona Trio – a set of three of Spain’s excellent guitarists Xavier Coll, Luis Robisco, Alí Arango, a heated percussionist Lucas Balbo and two theatrical flamenco artists Carolina Morgado & José Manuel Álvarez. So romantic, energetic and inspiring!

Barbie (2023)

The Movie

Margot Robbie & Ryan Gosling are far from vainglorious as Barbie & Ken in recent movie Barbie. I admit I managed to watch 1/2 of it on video (due to not having hired it myself). They outline a Mattel endorsed lifestyle that is walking a tightrope and is destined to change due to Barbie’s discovering existencey of a real life beyond the materialistic confines of the present known doll’s life. The elements of ’real life’ suggest danger and disarray compared with the predictability of a doll’s life. It provokes discussion of thé clash between dolls’s or their imagined ‘perfect’ lifestyles and reallife and the problems each situation brings mechanistically.
